Bound to Highland is an Alternate Universe story by Richard Lobinske that expands on a version of Daria Morgendorffer first shown in the story, Three.

During Daria's freshman year of high school, her parents divorced and because of the divorce, they do not move to Lawndale, instead, remaining in Highland. The situation is difficult for Daria, even though her parents separately try hard to make her and Quinn Morgendorffer happy. Things continue to go downhill when Jake Morgendorffer dies from a heart attack. In what is at first thought to be an improvement, Helen Morgendorffer resigns from her old law firm and begins work as a criminal defense attorney. However, a week after Daria's 18th birthday, she is gunned down by one of her clients, Todd Ianuzzi.

Daria becomes Quinn's legal guardian and abandons her initial plans to attend Raft College. After she graduates from high school, Daria begins working at Mamma Parker's All Night Diner after the life insurance money runs out. Determined to give Quinn a better life, Daria continues to work there as she puts Quinn through high school and then, college.

Through all of this time, Daria worked on her great novel and after Quinn graduates from college and moves to New York, Daria begins trying to sell the book while saving up money for college. After numerous rejections and then a rejection from her preferred college, Daria decides to finally and truly get away from it all by purchasing a remote cabin in Montana.
